This American comedian living in the UK is a new face on the British scene, but in merely one year, Taylor has won a couple of stand-up competitions and won the ‘Funny Women Awards – One to Watch List’ last year. Her comedic talent is not just limited to stand-up comedy: Taylor is currently in the midst of recording a series of sketches for a new television comedy (which, it must be noted, she produces herself) and is working on a multimedia comic-research project about the human body.

Taylor is so far the only comedienne who performed as part of London Calling and soon we will have the opportunity to see her in Croatia again. Traveling between performances, Taylor recently spoke to us at Victoria train station in London, where she was waiting for a train to take her to her next performance.

Taylor, why stand-up?

How would you describe London’s comedy club scene?
Well, it’s a mixed bag. When you’re talking about the bigger clubs that I’m just getting my feet into, there’s definitely a certain vibe there. If you’re playing to 400 people in a bigger club you’re going to get a different vibe then some of the smaller pub gigs...

Which clubs are your favorite?
My favorite place I’ve ever played is Comedia Brighton, it’s a typical comedy club in the sense that it’s a low ceiling, dark, loads of tables...

How did you like Osijek and Zagreb?
The Croatian run were the first gigs I’ve done out of the UK, and I still talk about it as one of my favorite runs that I’ve ever done...

Why are there so few comediennes?
Historically, comedy was a mans game and there’s been a lot of women who blazed a trail a long time ago in the 50s and 60s...
