At the heart of Greenwich, a picturesque neighborhood in south London known for its prime meridian and glorious naval past, is the home of one of the City’s favorite comedy clubs - Up the Creek. www.up-the-creek.com
Critics and audiences say that Up the Creek is one of the most sought after clubs with a long history of appearances of today’s popular, even legendary, British comedians. The stars of the UK stand-up scene and frequent guests on British television - Jimmy Carr, Al Murray, Harry Hill and Jo Brand are just some of them - their career’s had begun at the legendary club which we present on our website.

Up the Creek is regarded among the comedians as one of the best places to perform. The club is built precisely in order to be the Mecca of British comedians and opened its doors in 1991.

It's all thanks to the unfortunately late Malcolm Hardee - comedian, agent, manager and "amateur senacionalist" as he styled himself. Hardee's fame by his extraordinary performances began to be saved from a life of petty crime for which he was put in jail. Upon leaving, Hardee founded The Tunnel Club, which opened the door to alternative comedians who have had trouble finding space for a different kind of comedy in the early '80s. Visitors remembered Hardee as a passionate smoker and alcoholic never without a glass of beer in his hand, which was often completely naked on stage.

Hardee drowned at the age of 55 years on the last day of January 2005, when he was drunkenly rowing a raft on the Thames. His name, character and work continues to live in the “Up the Creek”Club - especially in a bar on the first floor, which dominates the mural which was ordered by Hardee himself. It presents a parody of Last Supper by Leonard da Vinci, which has Hardee presented as Jesus. Sitting around him is the cream of the British comedy scene. Up the Creek is a regular host to most popular and established names of the British comedy, but it also opens its doors to complete beginners. The program on Sundays is particularly successful. www.sundayspecial.co.uk
